Eugenio Parente is Full professor of Food microbiology at the Università degli Studi della Basilicata, Potenza, Italy, where he lectures in Food microbiology (BSc) and Food safety and preservation (MSc). Research interests have spanned from dairy microbiology, to microbial production of organic acids, exopolysaccharides and bacteriocins, to the characterization of stress response and oxidative metabolism of lactic acid bacteria. Recent focus is on molecular microbial ecology of foods. He is the creator and curator of the FoodMicrobionet database, which showcases metataxonomic data on bacterial and fungal communities of foods.
