Prof. Erasmo Neviani, born in 1956, graduated in Food Preparation Sciences from the University of Milan in 1980. After an initial period of stage at the INRA research center in Jouy en Josas (France) in 1985 began working, first as a researcher and then as Director of the Microbiology and Enzymology Department, at the Italian Research Dairy Institute in Lodi.

Then, from 2001 to 2023 he was Full Professor of Agricultural Microbiology at the University of Parma. From 2009 to 2012 he was Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and from 2019 to 2023 he was Coordinator of the Food Project of the University of Parma. From 2013 to 2016 he was President of the Italian Society of Agricultural, Environmental and Food Microbiology (SIMTREA). His main research topics concern lactic acid bacteria activity in the dairy ecosystem and particularly in the natural starters. His research activity has resulted in the publication of more than 380 scientific papers, including 191 in international journals and 15 in Proceedings of International Congresses. He has published 8 books and numerous monographs of scientific character. He is currently President of the Italian FIL-IDF (Iternational Dairy Federation) Committee and a scientific collaborator of different dairy industries. In the year 2024, he was appointed as an honorary member of SIMTREA.
